Our beloved country celebrates its National Day on December 18 every year. Various state authorities are competing in receiving this historic event dear to the hearts of the people of the country and their partners who live on this beloved soil that consists of residents from various Arab and foreign communities.
All are involved in this precious occasion with many programs and events that reflect their love and loyalty to this great country. The expatriate communities have made remarkable contributions in their participation with natives the joy of National Day. They express their devotion and love for the country in which they reside through multiple events that demonstrate this love-inspired performances absorbed from Qatari culture that they are living in.
Based on this close relations ship between citizens and residents and as part of celebration of this great day, the Committee of Associated Programs for Qatar National Day Celebration is organizing extensive colorful cultural and entrainment programs and sports activities at various venues outside Doha providing alternative locations to enjoy National Day celebrations in a family atmosphere.
The programs will be held in cooperation with expatriate communities living in Qatar and foreign schools thus providing an opportunity for them to express their love to Qatar while embodying state’s care for them in national day celebration.
The cultural and sports events themed ‘one love’ will be offering a day full of entertainment, amusement and activities for the residents and workers on December 18 where the program will start with National Anthem at 8.00 am in the morning and continue till 10.00 pm in the night. The events will be held in four locations that are Westend Park - Industrial Area, Al-Wakrah Stadium, Al-Rayyan Stadium and Al-Khor Stadium.
Speaking in the press conference, the director of Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior and official from the Organizing Committee, Col. Abdullah Khalifa Al-Muftah said that the Committee of Associated Programs for Qatar National Day Celebrations has made all arrangements for the associated events of National Day celebrations this year, in collaboration with Asian communities living in Qatar. He pointed that Indian, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, Paskistani, Malaysian, Filipino and Indonesian communities will participated in the programs which also includes folkloric performances, traditional shows, acrobatics shows and musical performances. Member of the organizing committee Mana Ibrahim Al Mana also later explained the programs and activities in detail during the press meet.
16 schools are participating in the cultural programs and competitions. They are MES Indian School, Pak Shama, Sri Lankan School, Nobel International School, Birla Public School, Ideal Indian School, Shanti Niketan Indian School Philippines School – Doha, Philippines International School, Scholars International School, Doha Modern Indian School, Pakistan Education Centre, Bangladesh MHM School, Bhavans Public School, DPS-MIS Indian School and Bright Future Pakistani International School
Apart from cultural progams, there will be sports activities and matches in each venue. Football match will be held in Al-Khor, Rayyan and Wakrah stadiums while volleyball match at Wakrah and Cricket match at Westend Park cricket stadium. Racing competition will be held for children below 10 years and general public at different venues.
Westend park open theater which can accommodate more than 14,000 persons, will witness cultural programs performed by Indian and Sri Lankan Communities and thematic performances and group by songs by students from MES Indian School, Sri Lankan School, Pak Shama and Noble International Schools. As well there will a Nepali musical show on December 17 (4.00 - 10.00 pm), Indian Musical Show on December 18 (6.00 – 10.00 pm at Open Theatre) and Philippines musical show on December 19 (4.00 - 10.00 pm).
Apart from this, Westend Cricket stadium that can accommodate more than 12,000 persons, will witness a cricket match between Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh community teams on December 18, 2013. Cricket matches will be managed by Lagan Cricket Club.
In Al-Wakrah stadium with a capacity of more than 12,000 seats, Pakistani and Bangladesh communities will perform cultural shows, thematic dances, songs, comedy show and more. Pakistan Education Centre, Bangladesh MHM School, Bhavans Indian School and DPS-MIS will compete with parade, songs, dances and thematic shows. Football and basketball matches will be held between community teams as well as racing competition for school children and public.
In Al-Rayyan Indoor stadium with the capacity of 3000 chairs will witness the performance by Filipino, Malaysian and Indonesian communities as well as well as competition between Philippines School – Doha, Philippines International School- Qatar, Scholars International School and Doha Modern Indian School. Football and basketball matches will be held as part of the sports activities at the venue.
In Al-Khor Sports Stadium that can accommodate more than 12,000 people, will be amused by performance of Nepalese expats and Al-Khor community. Birla Public School, Ideal Indian School and Shanti Niketan Indian School will compete with each other in parade, songs, dance and thematic show.
National anthem will be followed by a parade of students from different schools at each location. Students will compete in general songs and thematic Qatar song in the morning session. From 9.30 onwards the participating communities will perform songs, dances and other activities until 12.30 pm. In the afternoon session that start at 3.00 will witness colorful cultural and thematic performance by community teams as well as general dance and thematic show competition between participating schools.
Apart from these entertainment activities, the venue will provide different services to the public. Blood & Sugar checking will be held in all venues in corporation with Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Medical Services Department of the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Red Crescent and many private clinics. Facilities will be arranged for blood donation as well in Westend park and Al Rayyan sports stadium.
First aid training will be provided in all venues. The venues will be arranged with dining and praying areas, restaurants, emergency medical services and other necessary services.
The schools winning first, second and third places in each venue will be awarded QR 10,000, QR 7,000 and QR 5,000 respectively. As well, winners and runners up of cricket tournament will be given QR 10,000 and QR 5000 respectively while winners in football and volleyball matches will be awarded QR 5000 and QR 3000.
