The Ministry of Interior represented by the Traffic and Public Relations Departments conducted three security and traffic safety awareness programs on the sidelines of "Iftar and Brotherhood with Communities Project" organized by the Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) in association with Ministry of Interior for each of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian expatriate communities in Doha at Al Ahli and Al- Arabi clubs on Thursday and Friday 26-27 August.
Apart from officials from RAF and representatives from the Ministries of Interior and Municipality & Urban Planning, H.E the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Qatar, Pakistani Counsel and Second Secretary at Indian embassy attended the programs where more than 4000 people attended in three programs.
Speaking on the occasion, the director of community service department at RAF Dr. Yahya Al Nuaimi welcomed the audience and thanked the MoI for the participation in this program with the aim of communication and reaching out to community members with awareness messages.
The diplomats from concerned embassies welcomed the guests and audience and they appreciated the efforts of Public Relation Department at the MoI in spreading traffic and safety awareness among the expatriate communities living in the country through this type of activities stressing on positive results that bring for the community members. They also urged the community members to follow the rules and regulations of Qatar during their stay in the country.
Lt. Shaheen Rasheed Shaheen Al Ateeq from Community Policing Section at North Security Department affirmed that "The security is responsibility of everyone and this denotes the inevitability of participation from citizens and residents of this country cooperating with community policing team and other concerned authorities." He also reminded them of the concept that the security is a joint responsibility.
During the Iftar program, the Office for Communication with Expatriates in the Public Relations Department of the MoI presented a traffic and security awareness PowerPoint presentation with the help of video clips on how to abide by laws pertaining to the traffic and residence in the country and the consequences of safety violation.
The presentation covered various issues such as avoiding errant and speed driving to reach the Iftar place and to start enough before the Iftar time, how to deal with minor and major accidents, traffic violations and its types and how to avoid them by following the instructions, finishing Eid shopping in advance in order to avoid traffic stampede and ensuring that the road is free from vehicles before crossing to avoid hitting accidents. It also covered issue of begging which is a bad habit and has negative consequences on the society and urged the needy people to approach the charity organizations in the country.
The community leaders expressed their deep gratitude to the Ministry of the Interior for its participation and presentation of awareness programs on traffic and public safety, which contribute to spread traffic culture among the communities living in the country.
