HE the Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the "Shahaniyya Security and Service Complex" on Thursday, 5/7/2010 morning. The new premise is a comprehensive security and service complex that comprises of buildings for many authorities such as Dukhan Security Department, which is the biggest premise in the complex, Shahaniyya Services Centre with a special annex for Qatari passports and Qatari Smart ID Card and Shahaniyya Civil Defense Centre in addition to branches for Drug Prevention Department and Criminal Investigation.
Director General of Public Security Staff Major General. Saad Bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, Director of Qatar Petroleum Dukhan Operations Department Ahmed Saif Al Sulaiti, Noble personalities of the district and directors of various departments in the Ministry of Interior attended the ceremony.
HE the Minister unveiled the curtain announcing the official inauguration of the complex and later, HE the Minister and the guests toured in various section of the Dukhan Security Department and Shahaniyya Services Centre and its annex, which offer the visa, residence permit and E-gov services and fingerprint section. HE the Minister concluded the tour by inaugurating "Shahaniyya Civil Defense Centre" in which HE the Minister launched new 6 water tanks for carrying out civil defense operations in the geographical area comes under the centre.
After the inauguration, a press conference was held for briefing about the facilities and services available at the complex, in which Director of Dukhan Security Department Brig. Abdul Hadi Dhafir Al Ahbabi, Assistant Director of the General Directorate of Passports and Expatriates Affairs Brig. Muhammed Al Atheeque, Director of Criminal Evidences and Information Department Col. Nasser Al Mahmoud, Head of Engineering and Maintenance Section at Logistics Department Col. Muhammed Thani Al Mudhahika and Shahaniyya Civil Defence Centre Officer Lt. Khalid Nasser Al Othaibi attended.
Brig. Al Ahbabi inaugurated the press conference briefing the history of the DSD since it was established in fifties and projected department's role in maintaining security in the area, crime prevention and moving security patrols for security maintenance and seizing the criminals. He also stressed that the Department is in constant communication and cooperation with the residents of the district either they are citizens or expatriates in the context of community policing.
The department is nourishing the community policing concept through inviting the residents to the ceremonies and celebrations conducted by the Ministry of Interior or Dukhan Security Department and to the receptions to exchange views in regard of any issues related with security and also communicates with the supervisors of the expatriates companies and head of foreign communities, added Brig. Al Ahbabi.
The DSD's director also added that the department has appointed some of its staff especially for community policing and sent them for special community policing training courses, which helped them to communicate with residents and labour force easily and also helped to find out solutions for many social problems related with population.
Brig. Muhammed Al Atheeque explained that the Shahaniyya Services Centre is providing most of the services offered by the headquarters of the General Directorate of Passports and Expatriates Affairs in Doha. The services available at Shahaniyya Services Centre are Residence Permit (Personal) Renewal, Residence Permit (Companies) Renewal, Visa Application Form (Personal) Submission, Visa Application Form (Families) Submission, Visa Application Form (Companies) Submission, Qatari Passport, Exit Permit for Qataries and Expatriates, Reporting about Absconding Workers, E-Gov Service, Recruitment Application Submission, E-Cash Service and ATM Service.
The Fingerprint Section has two units one for males and another one for females and the section has been established in Shahaniyya area in order to ease the delivery of the fingerprint services to the inhabitants. The section at present works during the official duty hours and in the future may be working in the evening shift, stated Col. Nasser Al Mahmoud.
" The construction of Shahaniyya Security and Service Complex that locates in 72000 square meters costed 25 million riyals and it consists of a Mosque, ample car parking for staff and visitors, a vehicle workshop for the department built in cooperation with Qatar Petroleum and a sports hall which will be launched after Ramadan", said Head of engineering and maintenance section in the Logistics Department of the Ministry of Interior.
Briefing about the facilities in the "Shahaniyya Civil Defense Centre", Lt. Al Othaibi said, The Centre has high importance as it covers a number of industrial establishments and it is the first responder for the road accidents happens on the road in this area. On the occasion of Center's inauguration, the civil defense has launched 6 new Rozen Power water tank vehicles which are the best vehicles used for rescue operation and fire extinguishing as well.
