The Security Departments under the Ministry of Interior succeeded in giving a new stroke for drugs' traffickers and promoters who attempt to intrude this toxic to the country through illegal ways by foiling the biggest drug smuggling operation witnessed by the country.

An official source in the Ministry of Interior stated that the Drugs Prevention Department in cooperation with some other security departments in the country and similar authorities in the GCC countries succeeded in the arrest of an international network smuggling and promoting drug materials. In the same time, the network is connected with other criminal gangs outside the country and they aim at smuggling and promoting the drug materials among the Gulf societies.

"The operation carried out by the security agencies with high professionalism stresses on the capacity and merit of the security personnel in the fight against any attempt that targets the security and stability of the society and its members," added the official. He also mentioned that, the drugs seizure operation and the arrest of the members in the network was successful because of complete cooperation and coordination between Drugs Prevention Department, State Security Agency, Preventive Security Department and Rescue (Al Fazaa) Patrols, in addition to the participation of General Directorate of Civil Defense and also because of the cooperation and coordination with other security agencies in the GCC countries.


During the operation, more than 4 million drugged Captagon pills - which are legally prohibited – were seized and its cost is calculated as for 112 million Qatari Riyals. The suspects were targeting to promote a part of it among the Qatari society and the other part in one of the GCC countries. But the successful seizure of the material foiled their plans and the full quantity was seized from its stored place before its distribution.

"The arrested criminal network comprises of nationals of Arab, Gulf and European countries and they were arrested after investing an excellent effort by the personnel at drugs prevention department and other security agencies which took part in the operation" added the official soruce.

The official source also emphasized that the security agencies in the country will not be slow in the fight against all criminal activities whatsoever its type, size and committers. He also appreciated the existing cooperation between security agencies in the country and also hailed its cooperation with other security agencies in the GCC countries, especially in the field of drugs prevention and foiling drug smuggling operations.
