Coast Guard Foils Drug Trafficking Attempt

The Coasts and Borders Security Department (CBSD) at Ministry of Interior could to seize 81 packs containing drug materials during a short period.

The arrest of the drug traffickers was a result of the efforts has been spent by the members of the "Missions Groups" formed by the CBSD for dealing with the suspected targets in the high seas. The arrest was held after monitoring the suspected targets coming to the Qatari coast by the radar devices.

The boat "Mikhbat" locally manufactured by the CBSD team, which was barged at Al Ruwai could to reach close to the traffickers' boat within five minutes before loading the drug materials on the coast, while the traffickers' boat was of high speed. The mission group asked the suspected boat to stop and when the crew refused the call, the CBSD team attacked the boat and when all the ways were closed in front of the traffickers to escape because another CBSD's mission team from Al Khore joined the Ruwais team and rounded them, the traffickers were compelled to stop and surrender and they were apprehended and moved to the coast. The missions group completed this operation within five minutes while it was taking before more than an hour.

The credit of the rapid response to the incident returns to the efficiency of the Mikhbad boat in implementing the chasing and capturing operations, in addition to the accuracy and creativity of the radar devices and surveillance towers that are used by the CBSD.

After the arrest, the traffickers were kept under the security circle until the arrival of officers from concerned agencies which took part in the operation such as Police .

Canine Section under Criminal Evidences and Information Department, Drugs Prevention Department and Shimal Security Department. Immediately, the police dog disclosed the place where the drug was hided and found out 81 packs containing drugs materials.

On this occasion, Brig (Navy) Ali Ahmed Al Badeed Al Mannadi , Director of the CBSD lauded the joint efforts spent by the various bodies in this operation and the appreciated the big development witnessed by the department, especially in the field of manufacturing the local boats in which the Mikhbat boat comes in the frontline, which has high speed that can follow the boat of the drug traffickers.

"The CBSD team when monitoring the marine targets, they will not be chasing them directly, except after confirming the accuracy of the suspected operation in order to prove the committed crime accurately," Brig. Al Mannai pointed out.

Commenting on the foiling various types of drug trafficking attempts, Al Badeed added that the coasts of the Qatar are open and its length is 550 kilometers. However, the Shimal area is the most important area through which the gangs are attempting for trafficking the drugs. We, the CBSD are always ready to protect the Qatari coasts and we have installed radars that monitor the movement in the sea 24 hours a day and there is a special staff for each radar for surveilling the activities and he reports immediately as soon as monitoring any suspected movement in the sea. The missions groups are deployed on Qatari coasts in all parts of the country and it intensifies the surveillance during nighttime because most of the trafficking operations are committed in the nigh time.

He also mentioned to the method of dealing with the suspected targets saying that, whenever these targets are disclosed by the radars, the patrols will be sent for verifying the nationality of the those boats and the crew working on it and the patrols crews will be a group of highly trained staff in operation for breaking in to the targets in the sea.

Concluding his comment, Brig. Al Manai appreciated and loaded the efforts of various bodies that took part in this operation.
